We were socialized in our upbringing and in school to give answers to every question asked.
👉Journalists know about this learned reflex of ours: Put a microphone in front of someone and they will have a hard time not answering your questions. They know, we feel the urge to answer quickly. Not thinking twice about our answer.
👉 And also bosses often tend to make use of this reflex, asking leading or yes/no questions to get the decision they have already taken themselves justified by their employees.
👉 For many people, discussions in this way may seem to save time and generate catchy headlines or interviews. However, forced answers never produce deeper insights or understanding – and definitely will never lead to any productive, appreciative discussions.
⭐ So today, let’s all ask questions – and be patient with the respondent, so they can think their thoughts to the end and give us their educated opinion.
